Hayao Miyazaki is respected by anime fans everywhere for his arful work, directing some of the most famous and classic anime stories such as Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. In Japan he is something of a celebrity with his latest heart-warming tale, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, grossing ¥10 billion in its first month of release and $194 million worldwide to date.
British newspaper, the Telegraph, posted a rare exclusive interview with director Miyazaki on their website. Miyazaki talks about still using a pencil to animate and never studying psychology despite his insights about children.
The interview is to promote Ponyo's British opening on February 12. Our staff enjoyed a midnight North American release and found the tale to be both colorful and heartwarming, though not as profound as Miyazaki's other tales.
