OK so I just signed on to host and coordinate a horror/ cosplay convention in my town. The con is in its 5th year..I know NOTHING about cons! I have been building a pretty elaborate haunt on my property for the past 5yrs with the goal of one day in the near future owning and operating a pro haunt of my own. When I found out that the con needed a new coordinator, I saw an opportunity to not only help my friend with his con, but also a marketing opportunity for my haunt to gain community recognition and possibly land some sponsors. I have secured a great location, with event insurance, vendors shouldn't be an issue since the con is already established. I have an event planner friend helping me out with set up...My questions are about"celebrity"appearances and if they are VITAL to a cons success or if they can be bypassed for having a "main attraction" type of thing instead? For example, instead of a meet and greet with a b-list supporting cast from, idk- hellraiser or whatever, what if I opted to do a sneak preview of my haunt? Or like a cosplay themed arena match? Does there HAVE to be those no name actors?
