About GameHole Con 2014

Genres
Gamehole Con is the premier tabletop gaming convention in the region. This is an easy thing to claim, but is a much harder thing to actually produce. Well, we are so happy about and humbled by the response to our Con. For a couple of reviews of last year's Con, please click here and here. We can now rightly claim that Gamehole Con is the premier tabletop gaming convention in the region. And, we don't say that out of hubris or gloating. We say that out of joy and sheer happiness with the knowledge that we have created a haven or more properly a celebration of tabletop gaming. Gamehole Con is all about tabletop gaming and nothing else. The convention features role-playing games, board games, fantasy and historical miniature gaming, and collectible card games. Gamehole Con is for the fantasy and adventure tabletop gaming enthusiast. Serious gamers - you will love this con! Wisconsin is the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons, the fantasy role playing game that started it all. We have a tremendously rich gaming culture here in Wisconsin. We lead the nation in number of gaming stores per-capita. Because of this legacy, it is a shame that the upper Midwest no longer has a major gaming convention to call its own. Nothing even close has filled the void caused by the departure of Gen Con. We aim to fix that problem. Sure, there are many very nice smaller gaming cons spread around the state. However, without exception they are very regionalized. Moreover, many of them do not share tabletop gaming as their exclusive focus. Our sole focus is tabletop gaming - nothing else. There is nothing wrong with anime, cosplay, LARPing or anything else for that matter. It is just not what this con is about. Gamehole Con has only one ambition. That is to be the very best tabletop gaming convention in the region. Finally, you may find yourself asking, "What is a Gamehole?" or saying to yourself, "Ew. A Gamehole sounds yucky." Well ladies and gentlemen; a Gamehole is simply a hole for gaming. It is a nod to the author that single-handedly created the genre of modern fantasy literature and thereby fantasy gaming - J.R.R. Tolkien. As Tolkien so beautifully wrote at the very start of the transcendent Hobbit: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." A Gamehole is a hole for gaming. Instead of Hobbits, it is filled with gamers, gaming, food, fellowship and fun. More specifically, the Gamehole is a longstanding group of Madison area gamers. We have been getting together for years playing our favorite games. We love virtually all tabletop games. The Gamehole is the place where we game. It used to be in a basement, hence the "hole" appendage along with it being a nod to Tolkien, as mentioned above. We are comprised of a group of professionals in a variety of vocations from the greater Madison area. We hail from many different parts of the country. We are serious gamers. So serious in fact, that we have taken it upon ourselves to bring a truly great tabletop gaming convention to Madison. We hope that you find Gamehole Con to be the perfect place to game.
